Neighborhood Amenities

The business associations of Brookside and nearby Waldo treat residents and visitors to a wide variety of events throughout most all months of the year. This includes the wildly popular Brookside Art Fair, a three-day event where artists from around the city and around the country share and sell their masterpieces – and residents and visitors meet up with old friends and make new ones!

Brookside also hosts ongoing Sip & Shop days, where shoppers enjoy adult beverages while meeting local business owners and enjoying special sales!

Brookside residents and visitors alike are also treated to a bustling Farmer’s Market most every spring, summer, and fall Saturday mornings. There, local farmers and makers sell sustainably grown produce, meat, baked goods, and a variety of eclectic handmade crafts, furniture, and other items! Complementing the Saturday morning market are local musicians who often play at the market. There are also a fine variety of activities to entertain kids of all ages!

The Parks & The Arts

In addition to their vibrant shops and restaurants, these charming adjacent neighborhoods feature many well-kept parks, such as Brookside Triangle Park, Arbor Villa Park, and Loose Park, as well as the famous Trolley Trail, one of KC’s most-loved walking trails! This 6.5-mile trail is perfect for strolling or biking through the beautiful historic neighborhoods in and around Brookside and Waldo – and all are just steps away from The Romanelli Reserve. For furry friends, there are multiple well-maintained off-leash dog parks for pets to run, play, and socialize!

A couple of miles to the east of The Romanelli Reserve lies sprawling Swope Park – Kansas City’s largest park. Swope Park is home to the Kansas City Zoo, as well as two public golf courses, another off-leash dog park, the Lakeside Nature Center, and Starlight Theater. And to the northwest is fabulous Loose Park with its renowned rose garden, tennis courts, mesmerizing koi pond, and meandering walking paths.

Art lovers will appreciate the short drive from The Romanelli Reserve to two of Kansas City’s – and the Midwest’s – most famous art museums, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. Both are free to visit and have large, world-renowned collections with works of art from most all periods of time from around the world. Both museums regularly host engaging social events and special collection exhibits for all to enjoy.
